Welcome to Memory Foam Mattress Reviews. This website was created to help you make your choice of memory foam mattress and help you find a good cheap supplier of all types of foam mattresses plus memory foam mattress reviews for both mattresses and mattress toppers. There are many different brands of memory foam mattresses and because these types of mattresses can get quite expensive it is important to get as much information as possible before purchasing.

Whether you are interested in just putting a topper on your bed, as a cheaper alternative to a mattress or if you are looking for a particular brand review, Memory Foam Mattress Reviews has it all. If there is anything we have missed and you would like us to review or need a review on please contact us on our contact page.

Having a great mattress is very important. Many people spend years suffering on a less than desirable mattress, losing quality sleep and losing energy as a result. You spend half your life on a mattress so you shouldn’t settle for anything less than the best. Memory foam mattresses can offer you many benefits and can make a major difference in your life. They can give you quality sleep, a feeling of peace and restfulness and give you back your energy. Most people think that just because they can fall asleep easily they are able to get a good nights sleep Unfortunately this isn’t the case.

Memory foam mattresses also have no springs, so you don’t have to worry about them poking you over time. If you can get a quality memory foam mattress, it is designed to last for a long while so splashing out isn’t as expensive as first thought.

On top of this a memory foam mattresses are hypoallergenic so is perfect for allergy and asthma sufferers.

Overall memory foam mattresses are a great investment but make sure you are get a quality mattress at a low price. Memory Foam Mattress Reviews helps you do just that.

Memory Foam Mattress Toppers: These are great if you want good quality sleep. If you have a firm mattress, a memory foam topper will make it more comfortable to sleep on. if you have a soft mattress a memory foam mattress topper will make your mattress even softer so you would be better getting a memory foam mattress instead. Also if you have lumpy mattress than a foam mattress topper wouldn’t be suitable either. A memory foam mattress topper is best on a firm, hard bed. If this doesn’t apply to you then you need to look into a new mattress completely. A memory foam mattress is a great choice and doesn’t have to be expensive. There is a wide range of memory foam mattress toppers available on Amazon.

Memory Foam Mattresses: A memory foam mattress supports your body. It helps keep your spine straight giving you a much more comfortable and better night’s sleep. You will find that you will no longer suffer from aches and pains. The memory foam mattress also comes in different thicknesses. You may needer a thicker mattress if you have a heavy build, otherwise the mattress won’t support you properly. There is a wide range of memory foam mattresses on Amazon.

Memory Foam Mattress Topper of Memory Foam Mattress?
Whether you choose a mattress topper or a completely new mattress depends on one thing: the condition of your current mattress. If your current bed is not that old and in very good condition, then a mattress topper can be a great investment and save you money from buying a completely new mattress. However if you have a spring mattress that is fairly old, it most likely is very lumpy. Spring mattresses have a tendency to get lumpy so much so you can feel the springs when you lay on it. In this case if you were to put a mattress topper over it, it may just make the topper lumpy too. The springiness of a spring mattress can also take away from the point of the memory foam – the support, so your best bed then is to just buy a completely new memory foam mattress bed.

Environmentally Friendly Memory Foam: Many companies are now bringing out eco memory foam products, for example Foamex have a range of eco memory foam mattresses made out of natural plant based ingredients plus they also use a process for making the mattress that ensures virtually zero emissions from doing so. Although this is fantastic, it must be noted that for memory foam to have the same feel and support as the original NASA formulation, it cannot be completely organic and plant based.

Memory Foam Mattress Quality – What To Look For
There are various different brands available when it comes to memory foam and there are also some bargains to have. Cost doesn’t always equate quality either. A good quality memory foam mattress will feel good without any help from a box spring underneath. It will feel good on its own.

On top of how it feels, you also should check out the warranty. A warranty is a great way to ensure quality because if your mattress fails quickly or in a year or so, the warranty will entitle you to a replacement, which is always a nice thing.

Memory Foam or Latex Foam?
You may have noticed that there are many times of foam available on the market, one that is fairly popular is latex foam. Latex foam has a much higher elasticity than memory foam. It is also more resilient. Therefore latex foam will feel springier whereas memory foam will feel more solid. It is important to know the difference and to ask especially if you have a latex allergy. Many companies are blending the two as well, so make sure you know exactly what you are getting.

Is Memory Foam The Best Support For Bones & Joints?
Memory foam will give you one of the best changes of reducing overall pressure place on your body and joints. It can also help align your body to take the pressure off too. There isn’t anything else that comes close to giving you the type of support memory foam does.

Not only is a mattress important for a perfect night’s sleep but it is also important for those who suffer from aches and pains. A poor mattress can hurt you – literally.

Two of the most popular types of mattress these days are memory foam and latex foam. Many people struggle to choose between the two types of foam for the best choice of mattress for them. This article gives you a break down of the differences between the 2 foams (latex vs memory foam) so you can make an informed and confident decision about your purchase.

Memory Foam

Memory foam is popular because it is supportive, comfortable and known to help those who struggle to get a restful night’s sleep. Memory foam is usually made from visco elastic foams that contour to your body. The more dense the foam is, the firmer the mattress is. However having a dense mattress also means it will last longer, and some of the problems associated with low density memory foam is that they tend to “stop working” sooner and potentially cost you more money in the long term. Density also matters in relation to your body weight too, so when choosing a mattress make sure it can withstand your weight!

Memory foam is very comfortable to sleep on – moreso than latex. However, most memory foam mattresses are made with harsh chemicals that are not good for the environment or for your health. This is why when you first purchase a mattress it has to be aired out to get rid of the chemical smell. There are some environmentally friendly memory foam mattresses available on the market that do not use the traditional petroleum-based chemicals and opt for plant-based chemicals instead.

One of the biggest drawbacks for memory foam is that it can cause overheating in some people. As an owner of a memory foam mattress, I have had no such problems with overheating and neither has my partner, however some people find that they get rather hot and sweaty. Some brands have tried to overcome this with airflow technology but looking at customer reviews, it suggests they haven’t fully.

Latex Foam

Latex foam mattresses can be found made from 100% latex, made from synthetic latex or a blend. Most companies choose not to use 100% natural latex as it is the most expensive but also most durable mattress available.

Latex foam is more natural than memory foam. It is much more breathable – something that memory foam struggles to be and thus it can cause one to overheat. Latex foam usually has pincore cells which make it more breathable and also let the foam contour to your body.

Latex foam is constructed from vulcanized sap from rubber trees, so from a health and environmental perspective latex is the better choice of foam.

Latex foam has a higher elasticity to it than memory foam has. When you sit on a memory foam mattress it will feel more solid and firm than a latex one. The latex foam will feel springy in comparison.

One worry about latex foam is the rare allergic reactions that xcan be tirggered for some people. This is usually only on skin contact though and with natural/synthetic latex mixes that are available, is highly unlikely to happen as the proteins that trigger the reaction are usually washed away.

Overall, latex foam seems to be the best choice if you want to confident you are getting an environmentally and healthy mattress, but may not be as comfortable or supportive as a memory foam. A great way to make sure you are making the right decision is to try before you buy at a local store if at all possible. This isn’t entirely necessary, as many foam mattresses now come with a free trial period, so if you do change your mind you can send it back.

Every time the prospect of a camping holiday is brought up to any grown person half of you is filled with dread, the other with complete excitement. Everyone has a child within them that would just love to go camping, especially if you didn’t get to go much as a child. But you’re an adult now, so you’re the one that’s got to pitch the tent, cook the food, remember to pack everything, light the fire, drive all the way there, look after the screaming, bored kids, all whilst making sure everyone (yourself included) is having a good time!

After you’ve wrestled with the tent for 2 hours, it’s only then that you realise all the stuff you forgot to bring. Food, clothing, and most importantly – bedding. I can handle screaming kids, driving, rubbish food and boredom, but when my rest time is jeopardised I can’t handle it! The first night was bearable, I found the flattest part of ground I could (despite the field practically being a minefield for cow dung) and placed half of my sleeping bag over it, whilst using the other half as a cover.

“Great”, I thought. It wasn’t super uncomfortable and I was too tired to care. I dropped off like a light, and woke up not being able to feel half of my body. The next night I doubled up the blanket, but this was only accompanied by a family moving right next to us, who seemed to have an unrealistic amount of children with them. They didn’t go to sleep until about midnight, and then awoke at 6am, more excited than anyone ever, running circles around all the tents and kicking balls right against mine.

I had a rubbish day that day, and an even worse night’s sleep. After 3 nights I returned home to find that my mother had bought us an enormous inflatable double mattress. It’s a shame I’m never going camping again.

These days we take everything for granted. If it doesn’t flash, make noises, do our work for us and update the world about our dinner last night then we’re not interested. But the most underrated and overlooked miracle of the last century and beyond is flight.

But let’s face it, it really can be all too easy to trivialise such a miracle of physics when you’re 7 miles high and some fat housewife going on a package holiday has elbowed you in the head for the 10th time in as many minutes.

Beyond the horrible check-in experience, the waiting, the boarding, the awkward bumping of limbs as you load your luggage into the overhead compartments, there is the most powerful and undeniably horrific saga of sleep. Or lack thereof.

On long-haul flights, or even cross-continental trips, sleep is the one thing that turns the average passenger into a snarling beast! After wrestling with your headphones to watch the craptacular film that’s being displayed on the half-inch screen a million miles away from you, you then have to find somewhere to put your feet.

If you had a modest ticket then you will soon become aware that leg space is something of a rarity. In unmoveable seats 10 inches away from each other it’s all too easy to boot the seat in front of you with the slightest movement. Hell hath no fury like a sleep-deprived passenger who’s been kicked in the back the 7th time by a fidgeting child.

There’s a saying “he could fall asleep on a washing line”. If that were true I’d also be able to sleep sitting up, but unfortunately nature has made pretty sure that’s never going to happen. Reclining is another issue. You’re either going to place someone’s drink tray firmly in their forehead, or crush their legs whilst you wriggle in your sleeplessness. There should be a term specifically targeted for mid-air “sleep guilt”. I’m sure there’s a ratio for angle-declined versus guilt gained.

The only time I’ve managed to ever get any quantifiable amount of sleep on a flight is when it’s on a huge 747, with 3 rows 3 seats, only me and one other passenger on the row with the middle seat as a “no man’s land” in which to rest limbs. That, combined with several blankets and pillows got me a few hours, but at the price of a neck like the letter ‘L’.

As someone who’s often struggled with sleep, I always considered the hype connected to your sleeping surface to be one of preference rather than necessity, and when people suggest particular bedding types or propose a particular way of sleeping I often shrugged it off as unimportant.
// ]]>

But I was mistaken, and after years of sleeping on sponge/spring/down mattresses I had developed a mattress complex! Foam mattresses were seen as a gimmick by more or less everyone when they came out. Expensive, rare, and not widely used, and that made me even more sceptical. But like everything else in retail and marketing it takes a while to lift off. Now everyone’s got one, including me!

Without it I think I would still have an issue sleeping. Now, even if I don’t get a full night’s rest for whatever reason, it doesn’t cripple me as much as it used to. If you fall short of your sleep by a few hours on a normal mattress it seems to really affect you. Your back, neck, even blood flow is jeopardised and can really affect your day, and subsequently the next night’s sleep.

I have always struggled with sleeping through the day too, generally. I’m one of those people who, once awake, is awake for good. It takes a long time for me to reach a state of rest and for my mind to fully shut down, and it doesn’t take much to disturb me at all! With the added bonus of comfort my body and mind can reach a state of rest much quicker, as there is much more balanced comfort all over my body, allowing my mind to wonder over recent events without being disturbed by discomfort knocking at the door!

True rest isn’t achieved until you are in REM sleep, and that’s something that takes a while to reach. Once you are there it is more difficult to be ripped from than just ‘dozing’, and that is the true difference between the quality of sleep I’ve had on other types of bedding compared to that of a foam mattress. Reaching that depth of sleep much quicker results in not being able to be disturbed quite so easily, allowing my active mind to remain undisturbed until it is fully rested and I can arise in my own time if knapping during the day, and it means having a full night’s rest after getting to sleep much quicker than before.

I’ve always struggled with sleep, and have never been able to put my finger on why. When I say struggle, I don’t necessarily mean I can’t sleep. Sometimes I can’t, sometimes I sleep too much, but I never seem to have the right sleep.

I can be in a deep nocturnal doze, and be awoken by the slightest of noises. Other nights I can sleep through horrendous storms and catfights. I’m often questioned the next day on whether I heard last night’s howlings, but rarely do I share the same experiences as my family.

If I am awoken too early, I find it very difficult to get back to sleep. I rarely get the chance to wake naturally these days, so you’d think I would be tired all the time – and I am. But I can never take a “cat nap” or “catch 40 winks”, because once I am awake that’s it; I’m awake for the rest of the day.

I’ve always had fairly standard beds growing up. I always wanted a cabin bed but wasn’t allowed one for fear of nocturnal movements that would result in broken bones! My earliest memories of sleep are sharing a bunk bed with my sister (which I did in fact fall off of one night). Once we got our own rooms I got a bed with an enormous clanking cupboard attached to the underneath, which almost constantly resulted in me waking myself up at the slightest movement.

After moving rooms several times and changing living arrangements more times than I can imagine, I managed to land my first double bed. It was (excuse the pun) like a dream come true as I now had room to kick around and fidget as much as I liked! Being a ‘busy’ sleeper I tend to roll around somewhat, involuntarily assaulting whoever accompanies me, and often sleepwalking and having imaginary conversations with hat stands and pets!

My sleeping got better as I got older, but when I say better I really mean deeper, longer, more undisturbed and less irritating. It took me a while to get to sleep I admit, and I often had to have the aid of an idle TV or radio, but once I was off there wasn’t anything on earth that could wake me. Again, that’s not to say the quality of sleep was better, as I always found myself waking up achy and cumbersome.

It wasn’t until I moved out from my parent’s house and moved in with my partner that we invested in a massive comfortable foam mattress. After suffering many nights on a bed with broken slats, we migrated to the floor and have been there ever since. My quality of sleep has drastically improved and I can spring out of bed with no sleep debt!

It is at this moment we take stock of our lives and see the waste we are producing in spite of our planet. It makes us want to make big changes, but it is through little changes we can have a huge impact on making a change to the way we treat the earth.

If you want to become “greener” and less wasteful then start small. Making small changes will help keep them permanent and turn them into lifestyle changes. If you take on too much too quickly you may find yourself overwhelmed and resorting back to old wasteful ways. This article has some tips to help you on the right track to being more friendly to our planet.

Make Your Refrigerator Efficient – One of the biggest huggers of electricity in the home is the fridge. As a result of its energy sucking ways it is important to get the most out of it but also to reduce its impact as much as possible. To get your fridge to be more efficient there are a few things you can do. First of all cleaning the coils on your fridge every 6 months will help it use less energy. This will also save you money too. You should also set your fridge between 38 and 40 degrees as this is where your fridge will work the more efficiently.

The StandBy Button – The standby button is a huge waste of electricity. Although it might not seem like it would use much energy, over time it can add up. Constantly plugging and unplugging the TV can be annoying so the best way to tackle this issue is to plug in several appliances into one power strip. When you are not using the appliances simply unplug the power strip. Also make sure you do not leave phone chargers still on when your phone has fnished charging. Yet again another waster of energy.

Change Your Light Bulbs – One simple thing you can do is to use fluorescent bulbs instead of traditional incandescent ones. Although fluorescent bulbs cost more when you first buy them, they can save you a lot of money over the lifetime of the bulb. They last a lot longer and you may not have to change your bulbs for years instead of months.

Remove The Lint From Your Dryer – It is really important to ensure that you frequently clean your lint filter out in the dryer. This can help you reduce your energy usage by up to a whopping 30%. Of course alternatively a much better option is to not use a dryer at all and hang your clothing outside or on indoor clothing rails to dry.

Most people know that if they don’t get a good night’s sleep they can feel irritable and fatigued all day. It can also cause health problems if on a continuous basis. Not only is snoring bad for the person who is snoring but also for their bed partner. Some bed partner’s find that the snoring can disrupt their sleep too.

How To Stop Snoring?
Many people simply accept they snore and don’t feel there are any solutions to it however there are. If you have it fairly bad then it is worth trying the non-invasive treatments before looking into more serious options.
Some ways to remedy the situation can be as simple as sleeping on your side or elevating your head while you sleep. Clearing your nose before you sleep, limiting alcohol and losing weight can also help the problem too. These aren’t guaranteed to overcome snoring but could help and are worth a shot.

Causes of Snoring
Snoring is caused as a result of the narrowing of your airway. This can be caused by sleep posture or defects in the soft tissue in the throat. The position of your tongue can also get in the way of allowing you to breathe smoothly too. Finding out when and how you snore will help you pinpoint whether you have control over it or not. Try keeping a sleep diary and get your partner to help (if you have one).

If you find you snore with your mouth open then it is likely that your problem is a result of tissue abnormalities in the throat. If you snore with your mouth closed then it is likely that your tongue is at fault. If you snore only on your back then it may just be a minor issue that can be resolved by changing your sleeping habits and lifestyle. If you snore in all sleep positions then snoring could be a more severe issue and you may need to see a professional.

Generally there are several different causes to snoring including:

Genetics – Sometimes snoring problems can be hereditary. It is possible to inherit a narrow throat or other physical attributes that can contribute.

Weight – If you are overweight then the fatty tissue and poor muscle tone can make a contribution to the problem.

Smoking – Smoking causes nasal congestion and relaxes your muscles which contribute to snoring.

Sleeping posture – if you sleep on your back it allows the back of your throat to relax blocking the smooth flow of air in and out.

Allergies & Asthma – These can block the nasal passage and cause breathing to be a struggle contributing to snoring.

Specifically restless leg syndrome is a neurological disorder in which a person will feel tingling, creeping, pulling, itching or gnawing sensations in the legs. It is difficult to describe exactly the sensation one feels but it can be difficult to lay still or rest, as movement eases the problem.

For the most part, symptoms are rarely described as painful, but more as if one is experiencing an ache and it is most noticeable at rest, hence why many people find it difficult to get to sleep or to sit and rest for a while.

This sleep disorder tends to begin slowly and becomes more and more frequent over time. Many women find themselves with this disorder during pregnancy especially in the later stages.

Symptoms often get worse during the evening and later on at night. It can also lead to insomnia and excessive daytime sleepiness due to the sleep deprivation it causes.

If the condition becomes severe or chronic it can also prevent you from or limit you from doing certain activities. Travelling by car or plane, sitting in a meet or even watching a movie can become too much as it becomes almost impossible to sit still for any length of time.

The sensations that people experience are described as: prickly, creeping, aching, like insects crawling inside the legs, tingly. The most common area to be affects is the calf but it can be felt anywhere in both or just one leg.
There are 3 classifications for restless leg syndrome:

Primary or Familial – This is found to run in families.

Secondary – This appears as a result of another condition such as pregnancy, chronic disease or low iron levels.

Idiopathic – This is when one has no family history or no other condition that could be linked to it.

For some people symptoms may not occur every night and can come and go. It can often be weeks before it returns. In severe cases, a person can feel the same sensations in their arms

The causes of this sleep disorder are not very well known but it is thought that stress is a huge contributory factor to the condition. Other conditions can cause restless leg syndrome, for example up to 40% of pregnant women experience it. Also it has been shown that the condition can run in families but this isn’t in all cases or the majority.
Generally the best prevention is to exercise, eat healthy and maintain a stress-free or low stress lifestyle.

Disruptions in sleep and excessive daytime sleepiness come under the concept of sleep disorders and they can be caused by psychological factors or physiological or a mixture of both.

This article goes over some of the most common sleep disorders there are and what they are.

Sleep Apnea & Snoring
Snoring is something many people do and may seem like it isn’t a problem. However snoring may be a sign that one has difficulty keeping their throat open while sleeping and this can lead to it’s more serious companion sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a condition where a person stops breathing in their sleep. This happens repeatedly and many people are unaware that they have this problem. Sleep apnea can be caused by an obstruction in the upper airway. This type of apnea is called obstructive sleep apnea and is the most common. It can also be caused by a failure of the brain to initiate a breath and this type is called central sleep apnea. This type is very rare and very difficult to diagnose. Apnea can worsen other medical conditions and also contribute to the develop of some such as high blood pressure, heart failure and diabetes to name a few.

Sleep Paralysis
Sleep paralysis involves the inability to move while going from sleeping to wakefulness. This is temporary but can be an extremely frightening experience. Many regular drug users find this can crop up as an issue. This can also be a symptom of narcolepsy.

Narcolepsy
Narcolepsy is characterized by 4 symptoms: excessive sleepiness during the day, cataplexy, sleep paralysis and hypnagogic hallucinations. The daytime sleepiness can be so much that it can cause one to fall asleep in inappropriate situations. Cataplexy is a loss of muscle tone in response to emotional stimulus. Hypnagogic hallucinations are extremely vivid dream-like visual or auditory sensations. These occur while one is falling asleep.

Restless Legs Syndrome
Many people do not realize that this is in fact a sleep disorder. It is a neurological movement disorder that causes unpleasant sensations in the legs. It makes you feel like you need to move and can include sensations of tingling, burning, aches and also like bugs are crawling on your legs. Many women who are pregnant suffer from this disorder but it isn’t exclusive to them. It can make falling sleep difficult and it can be hard to rest with as a result of this syndrome.

Circadian Rhythm Disorders
This type of disorder results when a person’s body clock is out of sync with external time cues. This can occur as a result of jet lag, shift work or delayed sleep phase syndrome. This mismatch can lead to insomnia.

Insomnia
Insomnia is when one has difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep. If you have insomnia you find it almost impossible to get enough sleep in order to feel rested. Many teenagers will claim to be insomniacs.

Parasomnias
This type of sleep disorder is characterized by abnormal sleep behaviors. This can involve unconscious, goal-directed behaviors that have meaning to the person and can include sleep walking, night terrors, sleep eating, sleep sex and also rapid eye movement behavior disorder. There are many more behaviors that fit under this type of sleep disorder.

Besides the sleeping disorders above there are many others too.
